Telling big fat lies on dating apps

Copying online dating profile examples reveals nothing about you!

How to write a dating profile

“I never know what to write in these :) anything you want to know, just ask 😂” —How many times have you seen pictures full of promise completely undermined with a bio like this. Although this is still a step up from having a blank bio.

There should never be any strict mandatory rules here either since some of the greatest bios I’ve seen tend to be the ones that are off beat and creative.

Sometimes it’s actually easier to talk about what you may not want to say in a bio, since offering the basic things that teach people who you are can't really put you at a disadvantage.

Here are a couple of the things I’ve seen that have always suggested the persons guard was up and their mind was kinda closed:

  • Left/right politics please swipe left

  • Vaccinated/unvaccinated please swipe left

  • I’m not on here much, catch me on insta

  • Not into small talk, lets meet

A kurt defensive stance can protect you from some of the unpleasant types on a dating app but it will also inadvertently push away many good potentials.

What a blank bio says about you

Not much :) the implication will be that either you never have much to say, or worse… there's nothing interesting enough to write.

You are likely losing swipes simply by being a blank slate. And getting matches will merely result in the other person having to go through the monotony of asking you all of those very basic questions anyway.

This is a punishingly slow start when you remember approximately 50% of all matches fade out within the first 6 interactions.

What we want vs what we can offer

Why not just keep the balance at 50/50. Here is what I want AND here is what I can offer you. Then you have a nice level of give and take and you're not falling too far into one side.

Telling your story in just a few words and finding creative ways to portray this to someone is the ultimate challenge, but it is greatly rewarded.

Here is a quick 58 second video clip featuring some excellent examples of this offered by youtuber & award winning author Ieva Kambarovaite:

So what can we really steal from the best dating profiles?

Steal only inspiration from the best of the best profiles. Straight up copying always leaves you coming up short.

Include at least one picture that shows off that ‘thing’ you are most self conscious about.

Grounding expectations can work in your favour if the other 99% of your pictures look like they were shot by a dating photographer

Keep the expectation in check and you could find waaaay more success.

Until next time.
