5 Classic Poses For Male Photos

A common question we get asked when preparing a client for a dating photoshoot in London is what are the best poses for boys or girls?

If the platform is huge (like Tinder or Bumble) then you want to be bringing your best. Nerves and a stiff disposition won’t come across well even if your environment is awesome, so let's go over what works.

Sometimes the answer is influenced by external factors and wanting to make use of the environment, other times this is as simple as realising your best assets. In all cases you’re trying to look like you’re not about to pose for a photo.

Often there are poses that just work no matter what. The cool classics that just seem to bring out a great look whether the subject is at the model or amatuer level. These are also very simple to pull off so you can adapt them to your personal style in a heartbeat.

How should men pose for pictures?

The maculine pose doesn’t have to suggest action, depending on the person there is just as much success when you showcase your composure and calm.

Outdoor photoshoot poses also present a great opportunity to exude confidence and express a carefree and fun attitude. Let’s take a closer look at five of the classic male poses

1. Wardrobe Adjusting

Your photographer will be using techniques to create a three dimensional effect for the viewer's eye. You as a subject can add to this effect by creating movement in your photo and wardrobe adjusting is just the perfect excuse.

Could be the cuff area, poppin the shirt, brushing the shoulder, unbuttoning the jacket… the options are all there, and if you can do it with subtlety and in an unassuming way, you’ll nail it.

2. The Hair Stroke

Again this brings life to what would otherwise be a still photo.

Sweeping the hair back or shifting the side behind the ears has a debonair and slick feel to it. It’s very difficult to not make this work since the action is so natural.

3. The Confident Lean

This is the one that is immediately accessible, easily achievable and takes the most charge. It serves as a great first shot in your suite of dating profile pictures since it’s typically the least formal, it also portrays a great confidence that carries through the entire photo from the foreground to the back.

Adjustments are easily made based on the environment and you also want to be at an angle with the head turned so you are not directly facing the camera.

4. The Thinking Man

Contrast the laid back shots perfectly with a focused and deep thinking man's shot. Again this is easy to pull off and can be changed up in any way you choose. This is also a smart way to add a slightly more formal demena if the casual stuff needs offsetting.

5. The Jacket Throwover

An ace in the hole when you're in the summer months, this can turn a relatively neutral photo into a snappy and fun street capture.

What is the best pose for men?

Weirdly your best pose sometimes shows up a few seconds after your photographer tells you to relax, since that's typically the one that comes most naturally to you.

When you’re on a photoshoot we give full instructions and direction to put you at ease, the more relaxed you are the better the photos will be.

We’ll be adding many more poses and ideas to this article section covering every creative pose and stance for brilliant photographs, so stay tuned.
