Worst photos for a dating profile?
Before deciding whether or not you want professional photos for dating apps like Tinder or Bumble you should start with the even easier task of finding the least flattering snaps on your profile and cleaning house.
That rom com you watched recently that told you all the necessities for finding a smart, funny and interesting person are already sewn deep within... and if you want to find that someone, you should stop looking. We slightly disagree.
You might have to show yourself off a little for people to see how fabulous you are! And you perhaps shouldn’t assume your most alluring features would be best showcased in a bathroom selfie with your unkempt fringe smothering half your face.

Why do people swipe left?
The average swipe time on an app is 6 seconds. And as shallow as that makes us it doesn’t change the fact that the window to impress is brutally brief.
We don’t want to oversell ourselves either. The personality traits we want to convey will be lost if we are dressed in clothes we would never wear or fill our profile bio with talents we’ve never had or even wanted.

What does a dating photographer do?
Which ever process you subscribe to, you’ll still want to avoid certain pictures. Ones that we know will get you dismissed the fastest.
Which pictures don’t work on dating apps?
Here are some of the things we have noticed when aiming for high swipe results with our dating photoshoot service in London.
Topless photos
A tank top should really be the limit here guys. I know you’ve put lots of work in to those muscles but you’ll get more compliments when playing them down.
Food photos
It can be difficult to find the charm in someone stuffing their face. It’s not so much the food, it’s really about covering the face which is often a problem.
Private photos
Nobody, NOBODY wants to see your D, or your V. Well… not yet anyways. Find a different way to show off your confidence.
Jewellery
Despite the confidence boost that bling can provide, you will nearly always find the subjective nature of jewellery can inadvertently put people off.
It’s not that it’s niche, lots of people wear rings, chains and watches, but one too many can break our rule of photo distractions, so we’d always go with a more minimalistic approach.
Group shots
There’s nothing worse than getting upstaged by your gorgeous friend. A solitary shot keeps the focus on you.
Stunning backgrounds
This is harder to convey to people but data shows that standing next to an amazing landmark or spectacular ocean view doesn’t get you more swipes. Perhaps because the viewers spent far less time ogling you than the backdrop?
Sunglasses
A not so obvious one, especially with how ice cool it can make us look. But it’s simply another way to obscure your facial features. And that doesn’t help.
How to improve your dating photos
When we do portrait photos for dating apps we tell our clients that they don’t need to bring much. We are trying to clear the canvas and make way for your best assets… a smile and a happy attitude.
The process is painless, your picture doesn’t need to be a masterpiece, you just want to rule out the things that people are the most judgemental about. Check out our Best places to date in London blog for new ideas where to go.
