Dating Profile Bio Examples

London’s best dating photographer finds out what his clients are writing in their bio - and if it’s working.

What makes a good dating app bio? Is it the tone? the grammar? nailing a joke? Even after winning someone over with professional dating photos you still have a job to do, and unfortunately, it’s incredibly easy to blow it.

Dating profile bio examples for women

Women and men don’t differ that much in the formula of an approachable profile. In fact most go with barebones politeness since they don’t want to scare away potentials by taking a risk.

Extremely common is the Likes & Dislikes list. Although quite minimalistic in its approach, there are not too many ways to be overly defensive with it.

The following examples are not suggestions or instructions, just a feel of the kind of things that get written and how they can come across.

Could work but less approachable:

  • “You must drive a car, own your own home etc…”
(a status wishlist? do these ever work?)

  • “I won’t message first, i’m old fashioned”
    (feels like straight up laziness)

  • “Not looking for games, allergic to bull$hit”
(i’m still annoyed at my last match)

  • “Looking for someone as fun and outgoing as me”
    (arrogance? not sure about this)

  • “Not impressed with the drugged tiger you’re sat next to”
    (I actually agree with this)

How welcoming do these feel? Seems like these are the types of messages that can get people's backs up.

If you are getting overwhelmed with offensive and pushy messages it can sometimes feel like you want to put the shutters down to everyone, and unfortunately that’s easy to pick up from your text. Here are some of the better bios i’ve noticed:

Feels way more approachable:

  • “Love good wine, good food & good company”
    (an easily relatable list)

  • “Born to travel, looking for someone outgoing and outdoorsy” (sure but, everyone writes this)

  • “I want a guy to say bless you when I sneeze”
    (cool, calm, collected humour)

  • “I love any movie where they spontaneously break out into song, I even do a little dance”
(leave the script and the formulas behind, innovate, think out of the box and create, this is all good)

Dating profile bio examples for guys

The ultra cocky bio can work, but not very often. Standing out is harder if you’re a male and that’s just a fact. Women are getting swiped right much more and therefore have many more options.

The dilemma is how do you grab attention without coming across as a toffee nosed twit? How do you say what you’re looking for whilst offering something back? Some of the guys profiles examples you might see frequently are:

Could work but less approachable

  • “Looking to treat you like a princess, cause I am a prince”
    (umm.. Okay)

  • “Confident in who I am, have my life together, you be the same” (honest, but again why alienate)

  • “Looking only for adventurers - don’t be the wallflower on the dancefloor”
(feels like we are talking down on this one)

  • “Willing to keep myself in shape, looking for the same”
(still feels like there's a less patronising way to say this)

  • “Looking for the one, I know you’re out there”
    (no pressure then)

Feels way more approachable

  • “Happy to be friends at first, also happy to let sparks fly”
    (open minded)

  • “Not much of a talker, but an awesome listener”
    (show off all traits)

  • “In love with finding top 10 restaurant lists and hunting them down, need a partner to take scores”
(out of the box thinking, and seems to have a plan)

Is it okay to not write a dating profile bio?

Sure. If your snaps are already getting you plenty of likes and you don’t want to rock the boat then enjoy the sailing. But all the questions people initially want to know are still on the way.

Save yourself time and get some details out there.
