7 London Dating App Statistics

Dating in London

Dating apps like Hinge, Bumble and Tinder are soaring, but the companies themselves have been relatively tight-lipped about the true membership data and statistics that we would all like to peek at.

So we’ve rummaged through the most reputable sources including the office for National Statistics, YouGov and Business of Apps to decipher fact from fiction and unearth the truths about the UK dating scene.

We will also take a look at some of the facts that affect the same dating apps we use everyday.

While giving us a glimpse of the past and how dating has progressed, these overviews might also determine where these technologies and social connections are headed in future.

Tinder Dating Statistics

#Tinder is still the capitals most popular dating app
With over 75 million monthly active users and 9.6 million subscribers in 2021, Tinder still reigns supreme. Starting in 2012 and originally named Matchbox, it is now established worldwide as the biggest contender in the space.

#Women only swipe right 14% of the time, for men its 46%
This is taken from a study of Tinder. It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to suggest that many of the other big dating apps have similar numbers.

#Approximately 11% of users on UK dating apps are female
This is a tough one to swallow and something that most dating apps are not too willing to shout about.

#The most popular age to meet on a dating app is between 25-29
Just when do you hit that ‘prime of life’ dating age? Obviously there's no answer but swipers seem to be hitting a peak before their 30s.

#Background checks would reassure most non users to try a dating app
As we move forward it does seem that pressure on the biggest apps is mounting to put new users through more scrutiny and filter out shady characters from the dating space.

#Typically only 13.6% of relationships from dating apps lead to marriage
The easy access nature of online dating also means that people feel far more secure in breaking up.

That's just the way it is, and that's likely why it's rare that swipers hit that marriage stage.

Wrap Up

An interesting conclusion to make from these stats is that dating in London is an unbalanced affair still slightly overcrowded by males.

We’d love to see more efforts made to counterbalance this. Until then, no matter what sex you are you can stand out from the crowd with one of our professional photoshoots.
