Has Badoo been screwing you over?

Badoo Dating App Review 2023

Making sure you have professional dating app photos to stand out from the crowd is just the start, you then need to find a dating app that isn’t constantly trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

Is Badoo legit?

As you’ll see in my other dating app reviews, if a company has something to hide or a past it doesn't want discovered - we want to expose them.

Badoo doesn’t seem to have much to hide as a company (no fun) but the story doesn’t end there.

Using resources like trustpilot MANY people have complained about the use of potentially fake profiles and pictures, particularly of beautiful women who apparently live right down the street from male users and say hi when you first sign up, so just be aware.

Their parent company is Bumble so that strengthens the legitimacy here. Here are my thoughts on the app itself.

Is Badoo a Hookup app?

Nah, not really. This is a mainstream app rather than a niche category fulfilment. They want to cast as wide a net as possible.

Is Badoo free?

The most basic elements are free on Badoo but the pitch is that ‘if you want to stand out from the crowd’ you’ll need to start buying credits.

This unlocks various features like knowing when your messages have been read or adding your photos to a featured service called spotlight.

Reviews become far less favourable when you hear from paying customers of these services. Standard messaging remains free.

How is the sign-up process for Badoo?

Time spent: Around 14 mins.
Questions: Varies from age, sex, hobbies, what you’re looking for. It’s not too egregious.
Verification process: Real-time selfie verification

Take a look at the some of the opening options below.

What are the features like on Badoo?

We mentioned before that the features are not often praised on Badoo. But they do deliver what is promised in terms of exposure. The responsiveness and matching is all subjective of course.

Likelihood of finding great matches on Badoo?

Currently your searches only really reach your local area, and if you want more then it requires more credits.

Over 318 million people have tried Badoo so it still has a small foothold in the market and a dearth of users are still around.

Just like many apps, your chances of finding matches go way down if you’re male, unfortunately.

Is Badoo any good?

Meh - There are things that could be done so much better. Trustpilot isn’t a definitive authority since it can be manipulated so easily but Badoo does have a low review score of 2.9.

Many also speak of the predatory pay structure and the constant penny pinching as an instant put off.

So it isn’t doing things as well as the big three for now but things may get better in future. We’ll keep an eye on it.

Here’s a look at the current review score on Apple’s app store.
