Dating app statistics

In February 2023 OnePoll conducted a study on behalf of Tinder on the Tinder dating platform. Data was gathered from 4000 users ranging from ages 18 to 25 in the UK, US and AU.

Tinder dating survey results

40% Are looking for a long term relationship
You might have assumed this would be higher, but given the growing level of accessibility that dating apps afford, and the fact that these are younger users, it does seem acceptable that less and less people want to be tied into a long commitment.

13% of all swipers are looking for a short-term connection
This figure would be much higher if this was focused on just men, but currently the desire for a fling is very low amongst the average user.

29% says their sexually has become more fluid in the past 3 years
Being able to select up to four pronouns (from a list of over 15) has opened up new connections and possibilities for many on the app. This increased inclusivity seems to have allowed singles to be more expressive in who they are and what they are looking for.

52% of Gen Z prefer monogamous relationships
This will likely stay around the halfway mark as Gen Z remains in much more of an explorative mode, with the percentage rising as they get older.

36% Are looking for open relationships
This again is reflective of the more explorative nature that the app will be allowing going forward.

Hierarchical polyamory is the most popular type of non monogamous relationship
This may be surprising but adding a structure to this type of open relationship can incorporate new levels of respect and transparency into what might be an otherwise insecure situation.

73% Want someone who is clear about what they want
It looks like NOT adding the preferences mentioned above or being less sure about the outcomes you are looking for is likely to make you less desirable to other swipers.

  • Pronouns on Profile - This has become ubiquitous among most dating apps and will continue to expand in future.
