Bumble dating site review

Since its launch in 2014, Bumble 🐝 has held strong to its original pledge to remain a women-first dating platform.

If you caught our analysis of other online dating apps like Feeld, Thursday, Badoo or Muzz you’ll know this fresh take has been a major success and the dating site has grown into one of the biggest dating platforms available.

Although the focus aims to make this an amazing app for women, we think there are many ways guys can benefit from the way this app is positioned. First some quick facts:

Bumble review

Tip ~ Due diligence. Have a video date before a real one!

Bumble overview

  • The company was founded by Whitney Wolfe Herd who also co-founded Tinder. Herd left Tinder after launching a discrimination lawsuit against the top executives and was paid over $1 million to settle.

  • According to Forbes, Whitney Wolfe Herd went on to become the youngest self-made billionaire in the world.

  • Bumble defines itself as a women empowerment app. After a match, women send the first message. If both parties are male or female then anyone can message first.

  • Women are given just 24 hours to initiate a conversation, if they don’t they lose the match.

  • Bumble has banned body shaming, we’ll show you their video message in a sec.

  • Bumble doesn’t just cater to dating, you have options to find new friends or make business connections through its different modes and options.

Tip ~ Free swipes are not plentiful, they run out fast, stay cool, be more selective with your choices.

Best dating app for men

Because there is such a disparity between heterosexual male and female numbers on dating apps (males are often nearly doubling the amount of women) A women focused app has brought balance to this ratio.

Although Bumble is marketed as a female empowerment app, this is also advantageous for men who want to see a higher ratio of female members on the dating app they are using.

If there are more options for men, they are encouraged to swipe less and be more selective with their choices which also leads to more meaningful connections.

Average Bumble Ratio

Tip ~ In comparison the Tinder ratio is approx 73% Male

Bumble’s ban on body shaming

An example of the efforts put in by Bumble to make it a safe and inclusive place is the ban on body shaming. See their own message in this short video:

This is just one example of the broader effort to make the app a safe place for all. This is further accentuated on Bumble with their stance against cyberflashing and onsite tools for abuse reporting.

Tip ~ You can report any abuse immediately with tools inside the app or website.

Bumble Speed Dating

This feature is still in its early stages but on Thursdays from 7pm you can find new ways to connect with people without having matched or even viewed their picture first.

If you see a live icon appear in app then the Speed Dating game can begin. Read over a few game rules to get started and then you’ll be thrown into conversations for around 3 mins each and then given the option to match, if both say yes then you’ll be connected.

Although not a huge success in all areas since it depends largely on how many participants are ready to jump on live and have a chat at that moment, it can be a fun night of surprises.

Tip ~ This is also a great way to practice those chatting skills and learn what works and what doesn't when greeting new people online.

Is Bumble Premium worth it?

Although the free offering is more than enough if you are looking to spend very little time online, Bumble Premium offers a range of valuable features that can extend your Bumble experience.

The way to go here is to first test the free stuff, then if you’re not seeing the results you want or the amount of connections you’d like, try out the premium stuff for a limited time as there are a few options that don’t lock you in for too long.

Is Bumble Boost worth it?

With Bumble Boost, you get unlimited swipes, the ability to rematch with expired connections, and the opportunity to see who has liked you. This is a good way to up your game without shelling out for the full upgrade.

What pictures work best on Bumble?

Bumble allows for large portrait orientated photos providing great opportunities for strong portrait shots. In London you can hire a dating photographer from only £89 - this will leave you with some perfect pictures for your dating profile.

Your photographer will also be experimenting with different colour filters and compositions to add variety to your profile collection. The trick for you is to try a set of around 5-6 pictures and then swap them out to see what is working best.

After a photoshoot session you’ll generally be left with around 100 photos so you’ll always have plenty to choose from.

How do I improve my Bumble photos?

Bumble Vs Tinder

When it comes to dating apps, Bumble and Tinder are two of the most popular options out there. Each app offers a unique experience tailored to different preferences.

Bumble stands out with its women-centric approach, giving women the power to initiate conversations, fostering a more empowering and respectful atmosphere. In contrast, Tinder allows both parties to send the first message, attracting a bigger range of users.

Another distinction is Bumble's mailability, offering separate modes for dating (Bumble Date), making friends (Bumble BFF), and networking (Bumble Bizz). On the other hand, Tinder is known for its larger user base and broader reach.

Ultimately, the choice between Bumble and Tinder boils down to personal preference and the type of connections you seek. Whether you prefer Bumble's empowering dynamic or Tinder's expansive user pool, both apps offer excellent opportunities to meet new people and find meaningful relationships.

What's the average age on Bumble?

The average age is approximately 26-32
