Should you go topless in your dating profile?

No one is going to stop us doing plenty of push ups before taking a picture, but are male nips okay to show on dating apps?

As a dating profile photographer, questions like this come in thick and fast on a regular basis from our clients. And if you are new to online dating the apps don’t always make things crystal clear.

Let's rule out the birthday suit 😏 straight away, typically no nudity is allowed on any of the mainstream dating apps. So let’s assume you have the majority of your body covered up when you’re looking to take online dating photos.

Where you go from there can vary on the type of app you are on - for now we are going to focus on the big boys like Tinder, Bumble and Hinge.

What are dating app rules on nudity?

Keep your shirt on when it comes to the most popular dating apps. This will keep you out of the crosshairs when it comes to security and potential banning.

If you’re on the beach with an open shirt you’ll probably be fine, Bumble allows swimwear but be careful to keep the private bits tucked in.

Tinder community guidelines specifically rules out nudity or sexual content of any kind, they even go as far as asking you to keep your written bio free from being too elicit.

Also see-through clothing is not a way around any of these rules.

Sure, if you’re on the right app at the right time, go for it. Hook up apps don’t seem to have a problem with it but check the terms and conditions first.

And if you have put the work in, and your body is where you want it to be you’ll likely get some feedback that you will love.

What should you not put on your dating profile?

If there’s something you’re worried about showing on your profile then you probably need to leave it out. Sex toys and accessories are a no go. Blurring out a certain part of your body won’t help either.

These will either get you the wrong attention or get you shadow banned.

Should you show cleavage on a dating profile?

What should you not put on your dating profile?

Again this is subjective but very rarely does this subtract from a good profile. You may get attention and comments that you don’t like or are not cool. This is the state of dating apps today.

Keep your selection of photos varied enough so that the cleavage doesn’t take centre point.

Should I put a shirtless picture on my dating profile?

In summary this is a grey area that is worth looking into if you want to attract fast attention. Most people though will have more success keeping that top on than whipping it off.

Summer wear is a clever happy medium that you can ultimately find more success with, shorts, bikinis, short sleeved shirts, vests… these are as close as you ever want to get to bearing it all.
