Match.com Review 2024

Considered one of the OG’s of the online dating arena, it kinda feels like Match.com has always been here.

Looking at recent trending data from the above chart, it would seem that the peak of its powers was in 2013, since then, it seems to have lost some ground to many of the newer kids on the block.

Dating apps like Tinder, Hinge, Plenty of Fish, Muzz, Once and bumble and other in-your-pocket based apps have certainly stolen much of the limelight. So what has Match been up to and how does the service square up to the rest of them today?

1. Does anyone use Match.com anymore?

People still see Match as a name with longevity and the app is still scoring in the top 10 on major platforms like the app store. There is also an increasing search for trust in a brand name, something that Match.com has retained after spending around two decades in the business.

There are also a number of new features that they have introduced to modernise their platform and keep it relevant amongst the newer players of the digital age - many of which single people are now looking for. We’ll look at a couple of those later.

2. How is the sign up process for Match.com?

When we tested it in 2023 this was still all relatively easy, the sign up process takes you through some initial identity confirmation and then it will ask you some basic questions, to try and get to know you and get a feel of what you’re looking for. Some examples:

  • Religion?

  • Ethnicity?

  • Career / Job?

  • Your gender and the gender you want to meet

  • Do you want children?

  • Do you drink/smoke?

Many of these will be optional to answer but identifying yourself will be mostly mandatory.

3. Is Match.com free?

Like most dating services Match.com has a free tier and a paid service depending on how much you feel you want from the app. It’s free to sign up and start swiping.

4. How much does Match.com cost?

Here is a quick look at the current pricing structure in GBP:

5. What is Match.com Live?

This is a feature within the service where you can join a room of likeminded people from your region or age, and chit chat. No full on dating required. It is a way to take the pressure off so you can ease into the more social aspects of connecting and communicating. And if you happen to meet someone you really like you can split from the group and message privately.

6. What are Match.com Singles Events?

Match regularly partners with groups and organisers like The Together Collective to arrange for members to meet and mingle. You can find details about singles events near you straight from the desktop app. Ticket prices will vary based on date and location.

7. Is Match.com Legit?

In the sense that this is not a site that is going to disappear after you sign up, yes it is, but this does not forgo the due diligence and attention you should pay to your own safety and security when meeting new people online.

They have kept up with the terms of service that most dating apps have taken on and they have gone a step further by partnering up with Garbo, a background check service, this has helped them to remain one of the most trusted brands in online dating.

8. Does Match.com use fake profiles?

Not so much the company at fault here, more the people, but yes there are plenty of fake accounts. Some only created because people are too shy to show themselves on a dating site, an approach that will leave them failing a real world connection every time.

This is gleaned from the many many reviews and commentators that have caught them out on it.

9. Is Match.com a hook-up app?

This is not a platform design for knocking boots, but… you’re not signing up to a convent school either. Do as you will. Optically the company would rather you see them as a dating site for finding long term partners.

10. Is Match.com good For the LGBTQ community?

There is an abundant welcome for most sexualities here, and a clear level of inclusivity for many categories. It provides options to input what you identify as and search for matches of differing or same sex matches.

The experience you may have on any dating app will still always come down to who you meet and how they may act so some may want to take a passive approach at first until they are more at ease with the crowds that get drawn to Match.com

11. Match vs Tinder

King of the desk top vs king of the apps? This comes down to what you are looking for.

Tinder is a newer modern way to approach dating. The membership numbers are larger, you are likely to be set up much faster, it is built to get you swiping and talking much faster. But you’re going to lose some attributes of a much more detailed selection process.

With match, there is a much more granular approach. They want to take a bit more information from you to try and ascertain what might be a great match for you.

You will still have to pay for premium features on both sides, but for many people the membership numbers will give Tinder the edge here. Despite the fact that you may often get more mismatches.

12. Is Match.com a good dating site?

The old goat is still chugging along and has retained a certain level of trust amongst its most loyal customers. It’s one to be considered if you prefer a more granular approach when filtering and specifying exactly the types of people you want to talk to.
