Available on both iOS and Android devices, the Once Dating app has attempted to shake up the dating formula by offering you one, finely honed, filtered personality match per day instead of the large volume of offerings that you might get in most online matching style apps like eHarmony or Thursday.

Whilst it has a growing user base in many countries, the emphasis remains on quality over quantity, and although that may seem like a great way to cut through the nonsense it still feels like seeking out THE ONE would be a very tall, very difficult task.

So let’s see if the people at getonce.com are up to it.

If your new dating profile pictures from one of our photoshoots has you itching to get out and date then read on to see if Once is today's app of choice.

Does Once use bots or fake profiles?

The membership numbers for the UK are likely around the 100k mark, they don’t release their numbers often so this is a calculated estimation.

Since they only offer one match per day the low membership numbers isn’t really an issue as they are always likely to find someone to offer up as a potential match for you.

That said, although not confirmed by the company, many who have used the app have described receiving immediate answers to messages, at 3am no less. This sounds like bot behaviour to us.

Is Once legit?

As our ongoing reviews will show, 95% of dating apps are pretty much terrible. With a smaller subscriber base they always find less savoury ways to get money out of your pocket.

Once (used to be called uDates) proposes an advanced learning algorithm that matches you once per day but it does seem that although the process is above board, the customers are not reporting happy results.

So yes it is a legitimate offering, but don’t pin all your hopes (or money) into finding the one straight off the bat.

Is Once a Hookup app?

This is not the focus here, there is a genuine attempt to connect users for a permanent relationship.

You also cannot see other member profiles as they are all anonymous until you’re sent your daily match.

So this is certainly not the place to be if you’re looking for action under the sheets.

Is Once Dating free?

You get one free match every day and then you get 24 hours to initiate conversation with each other. There are extremely limited browse or search options besides this in the app.

You can only talk for free if your match for the day is interested in talking, outside of that things start to get a little expensive.

Here is a quick look at the current pricing structure on the apple app store:

How is the sign-up process for Once?

Time spent

The process only takes around 3 mins.

Questions asked

You don’t need to fill in your full profile details right away, the Facebook details you used for login can also be used as a profile avatar.

Verification process

Your Facebook page is typically the fastest way to sign up. They will also use your phone number for verification using text messages.

Likelihood of finding great matches on Once?

The same ethos that makes this unique is the same problem I feel it has, those rare one off matches that actually result in a relationship simply can't happen often.

Also you always want to be wary of any matches you get right at the start as this tends to be when you get drawn in with the ‘perfect match’ but asked to pay up if you want to continue to talk with them.

Conclusion

I don’t think this idea will ever make it out of the niche circle it's currently part of but it can be interesting for those looking for a much more passive approach.

Some users have reported technical issues like freezing during conversations or crashes on certain pages. So it's not perhaps up to the level of the bigger mainstream dating software as yet.

In terms of its reputation for actually finding that true love, things are not looking good. The reviews on app stores are pretty terrible.

You’ll have to take caution on how much you spend here as there doesn’t seem to be much sympathy from the team that runs the site if you feel you have been cheated out of your cash.
